Labor Day

School is in session.
Labor day around the corner.
Not much going on in Hawaii.
Things are the same old, same old.
Unemployment is down, but just a bit.
The state, the largest employer in the state, is going to lay off a bunch of people, or at the very least have their work furloughed.
Mmm. Not sure how that will effect private employers and businesses and labor.
How is everything where you are?

August --- Finished

Time sure does fly by.
It is already the month of September.
Things are going well. We are doing well.
Could have more money. Could have more time.
At least I have my health, my family, my home.
I have friends, food, fun.
Life is good.
It is already later than you think.
Take some time to enjoy what you have and be glad for what you have.
Things could be better, but then again, things could be worse.

Humu Humu Nuku Nuku Apua'a

Big name. Small fish.
When you come to Hawaii, check out our state fish.
This one was free when we went to the LEGO grand opening.
Yes, now in Hawaii there is a LEGO shop.
I wonder how we survived without one for so long.
Well, have a great day and week.
A hui hou!

The Bus - Lego is Hea!

Lego has finally arrived in Hawaii. It's HEA...as you would say in pidgin.
Well, it is about time. I remember playing with Lego when I was little. It was a lot of fun.

The Bus in Hawaii is one of the best in the states.
Nothing like Japan. In Japan you could search when the bus was going to arrive.
In Hawaii, they finally have that feature.
Cool.

Well, have to run.
My bus is arriving.

Dog days of summer

July 19 was National Hot Dog Day.

Is there such a day?
Guess so.

July 19 was also dou you no ushi no hi - which means the day of the cow. The old Japanese calendar using the zodiac animals and each day is represented by an animal. The belief is that on the day of the cow in the middle of the summer to bring good luck / ward off illness you would eat something that starts with u. ume. ushi. usagi. all okay. Guess an Unagi (grilled eel) salesman jumped at the idea and as you fast forward to today, it has basically become eat unagi on cow day! How is that for marketing.

Anyway, back to Hot Dog day. The day was good. Went to check out this weiner mobile. So, cool.
Course the Outdoor circle thinks that it is a moving billboard and has a cow about it. Is there any cow in hot dogs? Mmm.

I am glad that we do not have any bill boards, but at the same time, is this really something you want to say no too?
Kids love it.
Parents love it. Generally speaking.
It comes once every 10 years.

Don't understand.
It was on the news and the Outdoor circle even is petitioning to the local government.
Sigh.
Saw somewhere that Hawaii is 49th out of 50 States for openness to business.
That cannot be good for business.
Oh well.
That is why the cost of living in Hawaii is so high and people cannot really survive out here.

We love the weather. The people. The food. Of course family is here.
Job market not so good. Cost of homes is outrageous.
What do you do? What do you do?

Not much one can do.
Suck it up or move on.

How about you?

Peace

You wonder with all of the things going on in this world that you hope they do not have another Hiroshima. Yet we had one just three days later, with Nagasaki. Luckily for the world they have not had another since then.
Yet, every country it seems wants their own weapon.

Sigh. Why cannot people see that we are all people and that we are the same deep down inside?
Peace. I suppose that is a hard concept for people to think about.
Imagining it does seem really hard to do despite the belief of a famous singer.

My great uncle died of what has to be the side effects of the radiation from the bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima way back on August 6, 1945. Cutting lives short. That is not right. I hope that my life is not cut short because of what other people do.
So, if you believe in fate, then maybe you say that is the way it is meant to be.

Maybe, but maybe not.
You do not have to believe in God to pray and think about all of those lost people in the world who died because of war who may still be around if we just thought about peace a little, just a bit, then perhaps we can make a difference?

For the sake of the children, I hope so.

Where have you been?

Blogging is such that I wonder who is out there reading.
Perhaps I am not writing enough for people to read.
Then again, perhaps I need to tweet my way?
Mmm. It's been a year since I came back home.
A lot has gone on in the year. A lot of good. A lot of so-so.
Luckily, not so much bad.
Still perhaps the people I left are now out of sight, so for them, I am out of mind?
I do not know.
Times are changing and we are getting busier.
Hopefully, I will be able to write more and add more.
Anyone out there? Comment and let me know you are there.
Glad to have you around.
Much aloha.

Lucky You Live Hawaii!

Winter time.
Really?

Well, when I was in Japan, I would say, 'Yes. Yes, I am!'

Of course there is a saying that most people from Hawaii have heard at least once in their lives.

'Lucky You Live Hawaii!'

Yes. Yes, I do. Yes, I am lucky.
Sun.
Blue skies.
Warm weather.
Beautiful beaches.
Yes, I Lucky I Live Hawaii.
